CROWNS AND BRIDGES

Dental Crowns:

A crown, also known as a cap, is placed on top of the damaged natural tooth to add more strength and functionality when fillings fail to serve the purpose.

A crown is customized similarly to a natural tooth which helps to improve the quality and functionality of natural teeth.

Why Do Teeth Need Crowns?

A crown is needed when a tooth is not strong enough to perform normal chewing functions on its own.

There are a number of reasons a tooth could require a crown to function properly, when :
  • There is a decay which damages 2 or more sides of the tooth surface.
  • There is a cracked tooth.
  • Tooth has a root canal treatment.
At Breath & Bite, we provide following :
1. Metal Ceramic Crown

In metal ceramic crown, the 1st layer will be metal coated and over that ceramic layer is coated for aesthetic purpose.

Advantages:
  • Good strength
  • Cost is less comparative to zirconia crowns
  • Advisable only for posterior teeth
Disadvantages:
  • When it’s exposed to light, the inner metal shade is exposed and it shows a dull grey appearance
  • Not advisable for front tooth
  • Over years, the ceramic layer may wear due to longer usage and the metal layer may be visible.

2. Zirconia / full ceramic crowns:

Zirconia crowns are completely metal free and stronger than the metal ceramic crowns and serve a better aesthetic purpose.

Advantages:
  • Metal free crowns
  • Good strength
  • Can be used for front and back tooth
  • Tooth shade is matched precisely for customization
  • Advanced technology is used in making the crowns hence fits perfectly on the tooth surface.
Disadvantages:
  • Price is on a little higher side when compared to metal ceramic crowns.

Dental Bridge

A dental bridge replaces the missing tooth and helps in regaining confidence and functionality. Missing tooth make you feel self-conscious while laughing, smiling or eating and chewing food.

When you have a missing tooth on one side eventually you end up using other side for chewing on a longer run, that will become a habit for using one side which will eventually end up losing tooth because of over usage.

Dental bridges are generally supported with the help of implants or adjacent natural teeth on either side of the missing tooth.
