WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW MORE ABOUT YOUR MOUTHWASH ?

In my daily practice, I have observed a sudden surge in usage of mouthwash among my patients without any prescription from their dentists.

when I started interacting with them, their prime concern was bad breath.

As a holistic functional dentist, I’m in a responsible position to educate my patients on correct usage of mouthwash.

What is mouth wash?

Mouth wash comes in a liquid form to rinse your oral cavity.

Recent markets have been loaded with multiple varieties of mouthwash and each has its own methodology of using it, so make sure you read a packaged instructions clearly before any use.

As a holistic dentist, I personally prefer my patients to choose a mouthwash only if required and after a detail discussion with dentist.

Mouth wash has been mostly used, if:
  • 1) Bad breath persists
  • 2) To prevent form cavities
  • 3) Post surgical procedures to maintain hygiene
  • 4) Teeth whitening (cosmetic mouth washes)
  • 5) To prevent gum diseases – antiseptic mouthwashes

Note : It’s not an alternate for your brushing or flossing.

How to use a mouth wash ?

FIRST STEP: Brush your teeth, complete your flossing.

SECOND STEP: Use mouthwash as directed by your dentist or as directed on the instruction sheet.

What is oral microbiome ?

Like our gut, even our oral cavity has both good and bad bacteria.

Good bacteria in the oral cavity plays a major role in chewing, digestion, healing, balancing PH in the oral cavity.

When mouth wash is used without prescription the entire microbiome is disturbed by eliminating both good and bad bacteria.

This will affect the PH and it becomes acidic.

Don’t ever let your microbiome get worse which may lead to gut health issues.

IF NOT MOUTH WASH, HOW DO I GET RID OF BAD BREATH?

Mouth wash will never cure your bad breath or cavities even after a regular use.

Smart way is to find out the root cause for any dental issues, try to rectify holistically and follow preventive methods to avoid any recurring concern.

Always get a guidance from your Holistic Dentist for a better oral care and improved dental health.
